How to Apply for Scholarships at MSU
Upon admission to MSU, entering transfers may complete the General Scholarship Application (GSA) to be considered for private and departmental scholarships.
The GSA opens on October 1 and the priority submission date for entering transfers is March 1. Your step by step guide to completing the GSA is below:
- Students must be admitted to complete the General Scholarship Application
- Log in to your MyState account using your NetID and NetPassword
- Under Apps & Services, click Banner
- Click Student
- Under the Financial Aid and Scholarships column, click ‘Submit/Revise General Scholarship Application’
- A new tab will open, and you will need to click the ‘Sign In’ button in the top right corner. You will then need to click ‘Sign in With Your Institution’
- When you are logging in for the first time, you will need to complete the General Scholarship Application
- Don’t forget to click the ‘Save’ button! When you are returning after your first log-in, you will be able to see your saved information
- After you complete and submit the General Scholarship Application, you may have additional opportunities recommended to you based on your test scores, GPA, leadership and service, and applicant record. More opportunities may become available over time, so we encourage you to log in regularly and check your account to see if any additional recommended opportunities appear.
- Students can fill out the General Scholarship Application each academic year while a student at MSU
Additional Scholarship Information for Entering Transfers
Please note that our scholarship program is reviewed each year and is subject to change. The information provided below is for the 2026-2027 academic year.
MSU offers academic scholarships that are automatically awarded to entering transfers based on:
- Minimum overall transferable GPA of 3.25 as computed by the MSU Office of Undergraduate Admissions
*Renewable for up to 5 semesters based on overall college GPA and continuous full-time enrollment at MSU
Students must enroll full-time (12 credit hours each semester at MSU) to receive their scholarship(s). Scholarship renewal is based on maintaining continuous full-time enrollment and maintaining the required overall college GPA as listed in the student's official scholarship offer letter. Enrollment and overall college GPA are checked at the end of each spring semester to determine scholarship renewal eligibility for the next academic year. Academic scholarships will be deferred during the work phase for co-op students.
*Overall transferable GPA is calculated by the MSU Office of Undergraduate Admissions and is based on all college courses attempted
Submission of the General Scholarship Application is required for competitive scholarships, including private, departmental, and leadership and service scholarships. Eligibility for these scholarships will be based on the overall transferable GPA on file as of March 1.
International students may be eligible for academic scholarships; however, please note that those with active agent contracts are ineligible for scholarship consideration.
Federal financial aid, state financial aid, and/or scholarship recipients may not receive funds in excess of cost of attendance. The amount of your scholarships may be adjusted or canceled if you receive funds in excess of cost of attendance, https://www.sfa.msstate.edu/cost. This may occur when students receive funds from other sources or agencies. When an over-award occurs, an adjustment to the student's financial aid and/or scholarships is required. A student may be required to repay funds due to the loss of eligibility. To prevent an over-award, notify the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships of any assistance you receive that is not listed on your award letter. Examples of other aid include external scholarships, military benefits, and Vocational Rehabilitation benefits.
