SAP Academic Plan Information
A SAP Academic Plan is a personalized plan designed to help you regain and maintain eligibility for financial aid after a successful SAP Appeal. Your plan outlines the courses you should take and the academic requirements you must meet each semester while working toward Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
What is a SAP Academic Plan?
A SAP Academic Plan is created with your academic advisor after your SAP Appeal has been approved.
The plan is designed to help you make steady progress toward your degree while meeting the academic requirements needed to remain eligible for financial aid.
Every academic plan is individualized based on your academic record and degree program.
Requirements While on an Academic Plan
If after your financial aid probationary period, the overall SAP policy requirements are not met, however, you have met all of the conditions of your SAP Academic Plan, you may be able to continue to receive financial aid (if otherwise eligible) until the length of your plan has expired.
Conditions of the SAP Academic Plan:
- Enroll in all courses listed on the academic plan. Only courses taken at Mississippi State University should be listed on the plan.
- Earn a minimum semester GPA 2.5 (undergrad), 3.0 (graduate).
- Successfully pass all courses on the academic plan - do not make any F or I grades.
- Do not drop or withdraw from any courses listed on your Academic Plan.
- Follow any additional conditions outlined in the approved plan.
Important: Meeting the requirements of your academic plan does not automatically guarantee financial aid eligibility. You must also continue to meet all other financial aid eligibility requirements.
How Do I Access My Academic Plan?
If your appeal requires an academic plan, you can access the Academic Plan and Statement of Understanding eForm in your myState account.
- Log in to myState.
- Select eForms.
- Choose Student eForms.
- Open the SAP Academic Plan and Statement of Understanding eForm.
Important: If you do not submit your Academic Plan and Statement of Understanding by the established deadline, you will not be eligible for the extended probation semester, and your federal financial aid will be cancelled. Review all communications from the Mississippi State University Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships for specific deadlines.

What Happens After my Probation Semester?
After your probation semester ends, the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will review your academic progress.
If you successfully meet your Academic Plan
You may be eligible to receive financial aid for an additional semester if you continue to meet the requirements of your Academic Plan and all other financial aid eligibility requirements. You may also be required to submit an updated Academic Plan. Submitting an updated Academic Plan does not guarantee an extension of financial aid or indicate that you are eligible to receive financial aid.
If you do not meet your Academic Plan
You will be placed back on Financial Aid Suspension and will not be eligible for additional financial aid until you meet SAP policy requirements or, if eligible, submit and receive approval for another SAP Appeal.
How Long Does an Academic Plan Last?
Your SAP Academic Plan will remain in effect until one of the following occurs:
- You do not meet the requirements of your academic plan
- You complete the full length of your academic plan
- You graduate from your degree program
- You are once again meeting the SAP policy requirements
The length of an academic plan depends on the SAP issue that led to your appeal

| Academic Amnesty | Up to 4 semesters, or until you are meeting the requirements of the SAP policy again |
| Others | Based on the terms of your approved appeal, as determined by a Financial Aid Administrator |
If you reach the end of your SAP Academic Plan and are still not meeting the SAP requirements, you cannot receive an extension of your financial aid probation. You may submit another SAP Appeal, provided you have not reached the limit of three appeals.

Yes. An Academic Plan is required for all approved appeals. If approved, you will receive instructions as part of your appeal decision.
Who creates my Academic Plan?
Your Academic Plan is completed with your academic advisor and submitted through the required eForm.
What happens if I drop a class on my Academic Plan?
Dropping or withdrawing from a course on you Academic Plan will cause you to lose eligibility to an extended probationary period.
Do I have to submit a new Academic Plan every semester?
Yes, a SAP Appeal is needed each semester unless granted an probationary period in which you must submit a new academic plan.
Can I change courses on my Academic Plan?
If you change a course listed on your Academic Plan and you replace it with another course, you will no longer meet the academic plan requirements. This could result in failing the academic plan and you will not be eligible for an extended probation period.
