CSEM FELLOWS
Targeting academically-talented students with demonstrated need among underrepresented groups in Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics
Beginning with the Fall of 2000, Mississippi State University has offered up to 40 academic scholarships each year to encourage students to pursue degrees in Computer Science, Engineering or Mathematics (CSEM). Through the generous support of The National Science Foundation, CSEM Fellows will provide financial support to selected CSEM majors who have documented financial need coupled with an excellent academic record.
Eligibility
- Applicants must enroll in a degree program in Computer Science, Engineering or Mathematics at Mississippi State University. (program open to all classifications, including 1st time entering freshmen).
- Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
- Undergraduates: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), making information available to MSU’s Department of Student Financial Aid.
- Graduates: Need will be determined by Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) eligibility criteria.
- Applicants must be in good academic standing and have an excellent academic record (cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater for undergraduates and cumulative GPA of 3.5 or greater for graduates).
- Applicants must be United States citizens, nationals, or aliens admitted as refugees at the time of application.

- CSEM Fellows Application
- Official academic *transcript with credit hours and courses completed, those in which you are currently enrolled, and cumulative GPA
- Entering freshman applicants may submit a final high school transcript
- Two letters of recommendation from academic faculty or administrators
- Entering freshman applicants may submit letters of recommendation from high school faculty or administrators
- Essay no greater than two pages addressing interest in a chosen field of study
- Personal resume outlining school and community activities and employment history for the preceding four years
Funding decisions will be determined by the CSEM Fellows Scholarship Selection Committee. Students selected for the CSEM Fellows Scholarships will be notified by letter.
Maintaining Eligibility
For renewal of the CSEM Fellows Scholarship, students must remain enrolled full time (12 hours for undergraduate students; 9 hours for graduate students) in one of the qualifying majors and maintain the minimum cumulative GPA (3.0 for undergraduates, 3.5 for graduates). CSEM Fellows scholarships may be deferred for students engaged in co-op programs or departmentally-sponsored internships.
Professional Development
Activities associated with the CSEM Fellows Program may include:
- Participation in research projects
- Opportunities for presentation of research activities at regional or national meetings
- Opportunities to attend seminars on related topics presenting by faculty, industry, and CSEM Fellows
- Individual academic support by a CSEM Faculty Mentor
- Assistance with job placement or identifying graduate study opportunities
